Information for doctors
Dear Sir or Madam,
Pediatric palliative care for patients with life-limiting conditions can be described as the provision of services to meet their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Thus, it is complex, multisystemic and dynamic supportive care.
The overriding goal of such care is to improve the child's quality of life; however, the goal of prolonging life cannot be fulfilled at the expense of any additional suffering.
Among aims of Domestic Hospice are severe symptoms management interventions along with providing care and support to the children's families through the course of their child's illness, terminal phase and periods of mourning. It is to be greatly emphasized that the underlying principle of palliative care revolves around the child's quality of life and family's comfort without employing any persistent life prolonging therapy along with the idea of no acceptance for euthanasia whatsoever due to shorten life. Life-limiting conditions comprise various groups of incurable illnesses that sooner or later will lead to immature death. These conditions are divided into two respective groups: oncological and non-oncological. Among oncological illnesses there are children with tumors and leukemia.
Non-oncological group consists of:
- Congenital defects,
- Chromosome aberrations and genetic diseases.
Our team consists of nurses that are trained at children's care, doctors, a psychologist, social workers and volunteers. We are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. The help provided by the hospice is free.
